What you Should Expect From a Licensed Clinician
- Willingness to answer all reasonable questions related to your treatment.
- Clear explanation of your rights and responsibilities.
- Clear information regarding fees and specific costs to you for services.
- Disclosure of training and experience related to your presenting concerns.
- Referrals to other professionals and support programs as indicated by your needs.
- Compliance with their professional code of ethics.
- Disclosure of any biases that may have implications for your care.
- A Services Agreement that clearly outlines what they offer and charge.
- Collection, review, and consideration of your complete treatment history, as reported by you, including your current treating physicians, mental health and substance abuse treatment history, medical history, and prescriptions.
- Individualized treatment in line with what is best for your individual concerns, not necessarily just what you want to hear and not a preset or generalized treatment approach.
Your Rights and Responsibilities
You have the right to…- Be treated with personal dignity and respect.
- Secured personal privacy and confidentiality of information.
- Reasonable access to treatment, regardless of your gender, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.
- Participate in an informed way in the decision-making process regarding treatment planning and choose not to participate in any process you do not want to.
- Be informed of your rights in language you understand.
- Voice complaints to your managed care company re: your provider.
- Voice complaints to the Texas Department of Insurance re: your managed care company.
- To be honest and forthcoming in what you report to your clinician.
- To say “No” when you do not feel comfortable with any therapeutic process.
- Give your counselor and managed care company accurate and complete information needed in order to receive care.
- Follow your agreed upon treatment plan.
- Participate fully in understanding your behavioral health concerns and developing mutually agreed upon goals with your counselor.
