Men's Issues
I believe addiction is a medical illness: a chronic biological disease of the brain that causes drug abuse and that recovery is a process, not simply a single event. I recognize and embrace the need for a complete approach to treating addiction, employing a combination of both the medical and psychosocial. My support services compliment the medical treatment my clients receive from their physicians.
I believe lengthy inpatient stays are rarely the answer and in many cases effective change is best achieved within the community rather than a hospital setting. Hospitalization provides an intervention to crisis, but rarely provides treatment with lasting effects towards maintaining sobriety - this comes from the work we do outside of the hospital setting; in our day to day lives.
The culture and construct of addiction treatment is evolving, and "one size fits all" treatment is simply not that effective. Together we build a recovery maintenance plan tailored to your needs and life situation.
When you are ready, I am here to help.
“Return To Life”: Recovery PSG for Men
(Professionally-Facilitated Support Group)Geared to increase awareness and support a healthy redefinition of self in recovery. This is not therapy – but an interactive recovery environment that incorporates Eastern philosophies and mindfulness with grounded and pragmatic approaches supporting positive changes in the way we think about ourselves in the world, in our relationships and in our recovery. Some experience in counseling or 12 Steps is helpful, but not necessary. Weekly groups are intentionally kept small in numbers in order to support a more enriching experience. Cost is $50 per group – paid monthly at the beginning of the month. PSGs are not covered by insurance. New members may join at the first group meeting of the month and should call to set up a pre-screen before that time.
